I am interested in purchasing an oil extractor. Does anyone have any experience with Motive Products Power Extractor and how it might compare with Pela, MityVac, Griots, Topsider or Oil Boy etc… I do need 8 liter capacity and this one has 10 while some of the others are not large enough. This one can also be used to bleed brake fluid since it is made from material compatible brake fluid as well. (the company has a whole line of brake bleeders)

I know there has been much debate over drain vs. oil extraction; I will probably drain it once per year to inspect the undercarriage. During our winter months there is no way I want to get under the car since it is to cold and we get snow here.

I have a mityvac pneumatic oil extractor. I'm on my fourth and final one (they said they wouldn't replace them anymore. My first three sucked shut on themselves (the second one actually imploded) when extracting warm oil.
I only use #4 now to suck out coolant or washer fluid. I have one of their hand pump ones for extracting oil.

Mike, I've been using a Griot's Garage manual oil extractor for 8 years ... very satisfied. A suction valve automatically opens when the extractor is full so there's no need to worry about overflowing the extractor. Merely empty the extractor, pump the handle to create vacuum and extract any remaining oil from the engine.

Of all the fluid extractors, Mityvac Fluid Evacuator Plus 07201 is the best for the money. It is very well built and it has a capacity of 8.8 liters. It is also a dispenser, so that you can transfer old oil to a couple milk jugs without a drop of oil on the floor.

I have Motive Products Power Brake Bleeder, it works very well to bleed the brake. But I think the Power Extractor is not as good as Mityvac.

Oil Boy works great, and is the same unit sold by Griot's. It appears to be quite heat resistant, as my oil during the last change was hot enough to flow like water and did not melt any of the Oil Boy's plastic.

The only negative is that it holds only about 6 quarts, which is not a real problem. When it gets full, empty it into an empty 5-quart oil bottle and then resume pumping from the engine. When all engine oil is extracted, pour in fresh oil from a new 5-qt bottle, and use that now-empty bottle for the remaining oil in the Oil Boy. (Then take both bottles to your local Auto Store and empty them.)

I have found the MityVac to be pretty good. No problem at all sucking hot oil out of the engine (now watch mine implode the next time I use it).

Anyway, it is much better than the Liquivac.
