I accidently put 89 octane in my S500 last week. The mechanic at the dealer said not to worry about it because of the anti-knock sensor. Just don't do it to often.

Well, I can tell you the car has never run worse! Sputtering, uneven idle, etc. I will never make that mistake again. Now my '84 380SL uses 87 and it likes it, but it was built when 87 was the only option. My feeling is if it says premium unleaded only then that's what you should use!

Sorry about the similes, they were just too funny to resist!

Honestly, i think if you own a mercedes. then the little bit extra it cost to put in prememium would be nothing compared to the reparing cost that the average owner spends a week.

I'm glad you mentioned them. Do you use BG's other products, too? I've heard mechanics talking about them positively (and not when trying to sell a flush to a customer), so I have been thinking of trying them.

I really don't use other BG products...some require special tools and hoses to work..

i don't want to put any additives in my transmission or my engine... changing those fluids regularly takes care of that..

i am just a believer in BG44k... it has never corrected a problem....but then again i have never had a problem...

when one looks at the additional cost of premium vs regular..its not all that much...10g premium vs 10g reg is only about a $2-3 total difference.

Reiterating my suspicion that gas prices will fall quite low by Election Day:

Yesterday I saw that ALL gas prices were below $3.00 in Virginia (Centreville).

I was also shocked to see that prices on a section of Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring, Maryland were lower than the average price in Virginia -- $3.05 for premium vs. approx. $3.15 for same in VA. (MD prices are usually always higher than VA.)

Cheap vs Stupid cheap

I like to save money just like like anyone else but there is cheap and stupid cheap. Stupid cheap is risking a major repair bill over a few cents difference in fuel prices. When it comes to the reccomended fluids for my vehicles I don't second guess the engineers that created the car. I always run reccomended fluids in my cars including the expensive Mercedes fluids. The small savings is really not worth the risk. I always find it amusing the risks people are willing to take with their vehicles for a few dollars saved.

My 140 is a complex car and actually uses part of the A/C system to cool the fuel before it reaches the injectors. If fuel was $1.00 or more a gallon for premium I still would not have any problems using it. I would rather spend $100 on fuel than $100 worth of abuse and damage to my car's fuel system.
