accumulators 560sel
I have a 91 560sel with 265K miles. How hard is it to replace the accumulators for a person with very little mecanical knowledge and expertise?Or do I have to replace them? I assume that is the problem since the rear end sags with a trunk full of luggage and a couple of my agents in the rear seat. Any help would be appreciated...oh, best place to order them. Thanks

You may not have any problem with the accumulators. The accumulators only provide a "bubble" of gas in the system to act as a spring. When they fail the ride gets very hard as if there are no shocks or springs whatsoever on the car. Every bump is a major jolt to the car frame and passengers.
Sounds like you have no pump up action which could be the pump, or control valve. How is the fluid level? Any fluid leaks?

I would not attempt the job, have it checked out. The fittings are rusted, lots of oil will come out, you need a good set of wrenches and the car in the air.The previous post out lined the items invoved.

I agree, seeing as they salt where you are the fittings back there could be in Rough shape.
Also, when accumulators go bad they start out as being Very bouncy and over time they become very hard. Either way it would be wise to have the system inspected by someone who is familiar w/ the setup. Jonathan
