does anyone have to slam their glove box door to get it to stay closed. On my 140, I always need to use a "spirited" motion, not really two hands or fists, but a pretty quick whack.

I pulled the inner box out and I noticed some sort of adjusting wheel where the cable for the mechanism goes in, but all this does is change the tension at which the button to open it pulls, no effect on it's ability to clip the door shut.

Thanks

My dad's S420 is pretty much the same. To open it, you have to push the button hard and then pull on the glove box. And you have to shut it just as you said, fast, but not with two hands or anything.

sounds better than the glove box in my friends 525I. The thing wont open and if you did get it to open it will just fall out.

LOL

Most of the W140s are like that. As long as it opens/closes properly, it should be fine.. In fact, I rather have myself "slam" the glove box door tight shut, than have annoying rattle sound from it...

I had the same problem with my 420SEL. I took a file label, with the sticky side out, rolled it and pushed it inside the little square opening in the latch on the door (the adhesive keeps it in place). Now it works perfectly, opening and closing, you don't have to slam it, and it doesn't show.

I had exactly the same problem with my 95 s420. I unscrewed the plastic cover that houses the latch mechanism and found out that one of the rivets that holds the latch in place was sheared off. I simply glued it in back in place and now it shuts with the least of force. It turns out the latch was moving slightly because it was not anchored correctly, causing the hook not to engage right away. I recommend opening the hard plastic housing the latch mechanism (the hard plastic that opens to reveal the coin storage and cup holder) and carefully look at the lock. - jim

This one time I picked up my brother to go out to lunch (Mr. Anti Foreign Anything) and he went snooping in my glove box and when he went to shut it, he gave it the ol' American Swing....B.A.M.!!!

Of course I freaked and proceeded to inform that all he needed to do is gently push it closed. (I suppose that I am one of the fortunate ones who has a glove box that needs minimal effort to shut and without any rattles).

Needless to say I made him to open it and shut it gently. "See, that's all it takes!"

...He mocks me every time we go out to lunch now!!! Mostly, I make him drive, now...a boring '99 Black Ford Taurus
