temperature display blinks

I have a 1999 C280 and whenever I start her, the temperature gauge that tells you the outside temp. blinks a couple of times, then stays on. It didn't use to do this. When starting her up, the temp would just display, no blinking - does anyone know what's going on??

thanks in advance,

It's illuminated just by a replaceable bulb, so maybe it's on the way out. I don't think MB has a feature to warn of "ice" conditions, not sure where you are located, it's not in the 30's in the morning is it??

Funny

You are so funny!! I'm located in Houston and we are a LONG WAYS from 30 degrees.

I appreciate your insight:)

OK, wasn't sure. Even in Visconsin it's not quite THAT cold yet. If you plan on a DIY, there are some instruction here already on removing the instrument cluster, which is what you would need to do to replace that bulb.

You are always with the jokes huh:)

Please, I haven't quite mastered putting air in my tires!!

Oh, can I pick your brain about something else? When I get home this evening, I'm going to take a picture of a part that's under my hood. It's seems to me that the part needs to be covered. So, if I put the picture here, maybe somebody can tell me what it is and is it suppose to be exposed...

take good care.

Sure, I'll try to watch for it.

I guess it is not the illumination but the temp figures that blinks? My display can do the same thing once in a while, bad contact or whatever, but most of the time it works so I have not yet tried to figure out...

You Are Correct

the temp figures blinks. Ok, well I won't worry about it at this point. Thanks for the feedback:)
