Is there a way to test clock? 1980 450sl
Good morning Everyone!
Last night I took the first step (albeit a small step) toward fixing my 1980 450sl, by replacing the capacitors in the clock, which has never worked since I have owned the car. However, I'm still not sure that it works. Is there a way to test the clock to see if it works without reinstalling everything in the dash? |
I don't have a clock loose in front of me, but if it is OK it can be powered with a 9 volt transistor radio battery, and you will hear it tick immediately when powered. I soldered thin wires to a battery because I didn't have a clip handy, which is not great for the health of the battery. HOWEVER, make sure you get the +/- polarity correct when powering the clock, otherwise the clock will probably not work PERMANENTLY.
