who knows something about 1984 Euro SL 280 ?
Hello everyone,
I've have posted a question about VIN location on above car,but still can't find it.Please let me know where are possible locations of stamped vin .,there supposed to be few of them I was told.I intend to ship this beauty to Europe and they go only by stamped vin, otherwise won't register. Thank you, please let me know. |
There should be a tag on the upper radiator support and a tag in the driver door jamb. US cars have a VIN but this is obviously not a US car.
Older MBs have the body/chassis number stamped on the frame rail behind the right headlight. I think that practice ended before the R107. You might contact the folks at www.oursl.com. They are familiar with the US and Euro R107s and might know where else to find the VIN in your car. If you have the VIN in a US title document, have a body shop punch the VIN with professional looking punchmanship on a frame rail. That's about as official looking as I can figure. Not to make light of your situation, it seems there's a likelihood that you'll ship the car to Europe, not be able to register it, then sell it freight prepaid to the US. That's the stuff craigslist scams are made of. Who'd think it could be legitimate :) Sixto 93 300SD |
vin on 280SL
Thank you for the information.
Punching the vin would not be a good idea-they will suspect something.Better to find where the original vin is.Its gotta be somewhere!!!Its not behind the lamp and not stamped on firewall for sure,I have checked many times unlees its below behind the engine. On radiator support its also missing.Still hope that someone knows. Thanks. |

Go back to the dealer you bought the car from. If he's a licensed shop and the car is illegiate, he's liable. I've always made it a point to match title to chasis vin#. Twice they didn't match and ran like hell. You Gotta be carefull when dealing with used Mecedes, the scammers/crooks are out there in hordes. |
That is USDOT

MB must have put the VIN in some non-removable part of the car. I still don't understand why US manufacturers put VIN specific tags in the driver door rather than the driver door jamb.
The W140 has the VIN stamped into the frame member just under the front passenger seat. There's a flap in the carpet to expose the VIN. I don't recall seeing this in other MBs but you might check there. If the folks at www.oursl.com can't help you, see if your police department has a car theft or CSI unit with veterans who know where to look for a VIN in an R107. Have you tried the Vintage forum? MBCA? Hemmings Motor News for an expert appraiser? MB restoration shop? Sixto 93 300SD |
