ML 430 stuck in limp home

ok. finally got the thing to a repair shop. it's stuck in limp home mode after changing the battery out. you can shift it into drive but it has some difficulty going back up into park.no problems before changing the battery! also, no lite on the digital readout as to which gear you're in. tried unplugging the battery to reboot it, didn't work. any ideas? it's at a repair shop, but not a dealer. will their scanner be able to correctly identify the problem, and can they "recode" the tcm? it's a 2000 (touchshift)
thanks.

WOW is that ever weird. Never heard of that before. Didn't have anything like a bad jump-starting experience before changing the battery? Gut reaction is new shifter assembly (SCM).......

yeah, did some jump starts off a Prestone "jump it." used it many times before over the years. it worked fine, but the radio and sunroof and transmission all went at once! luckily the radio came back after re-entering the code, but not the transmission.

Gilly - ESM, not SCM -SCM is steering column module

teddavies - Did you change the battery yourself? Was the key in position 2 when you did it?

ok here's the codes:

po720
po750

other codes:
37
38
39
52
( all off the tcm i believe)

what does the combination of these codes mean? or is it as simple as replacing the individual items?

thanks.

ok, the mechanic wants to replace to entire shifter assembly- but it's also showing codes for po720 and po750 -will these items need to be replaced as well?

thanks.

On the touchshift, there are no seperately available parts, have to replace the whole thing.
