2000 C 240 power steering leak

My dads 2000 C 240 made funny sounds from the power stearing. I found PS fluid under the car. Took it to ourdependent and he says fluid runs out as fast as he pours it in. Fluid escapes towards cat and muffler area. Checking with MB they tell him no repairset available. However he canīt really see the leak and once he starts diassembling it will be even harder to localise the leak. Anybody has any ideas. Help is highly appriciated.

Reinhard, Vienna

is this a 203 MY2000? i've seen from time to time the large fittings on the rack come loose on their own over time and would cause what you describe.

You need a E18 socket to tighten them up or a 14mm(i think) 12pt socket. if that doesnt work, the blue seals on the metal lines will need to be replaced.

Mechanic says it leaks where the high pressure line connects to the housing of the steering. The fitting is so loose that it cannot be sealed. MB tells him we need to get a new steering unit(EUR 2000)

Thank you Carson357! Exactly as you said the pressure hose was the culprit. It wiggled itself so hard that it was broken. Mechanic chabnged the hose including the return line(both updated version so they would not move as much) for a total of USD 350.

more headaches.... now when he uses the limiter fumction of the cruise control it throws an error (visit dealership etc.)and the engine performs very weakly. Once he restarts the engine the error is gone and the engine performs normally. is there a possible connection with the repair of the steering. Anything that needs to be reset???
Thank you,

Reinhard
