76 450SL no blower

I posted this question on the vintage forum, no body seems to have an answer---at least no body posted. Possible someone here can help.
The blower in the above MB does not work. The fuse is good--new. The blower motor is not frozen. I suspect the switch, it may be a rhostate--I'm not sure. How can this unit be pulled.and can it be rebuilt as I've not found a replacement on the net.
Thanks
Terry

Blower motor

I believe the blower motor assembly can be removed by taking the cover off that is located on top of the firewall right between (and in front of) the wiper arms. Directly behind the air cleaner assembly.

Gary, I've pulled the cover and checked the motor. The problem is that I can't see how the switch on the consol is mounted and I need to get it out to check it. Then the question is weather it can be repaired or not. Can't seem to find a new one.
Thanks
Terry

motor

Are you talking about the switch above the radio or the knob on the heater panel. Either way, I have one.

450sl blower

just grab on and pull it's held by a spring clip.then you will see large skinny nut undo nut and it should be out of there.there were two types, one that had a wiring pigtail[which i think is yours] and one without.from that switch the power goes to the resistor pack which is in the front right area of the fan housing good luck.

ENGR--the knob is below the radio--above the a/c knob--that panel has me buffaloed on how to remove. are ther screws above the ash tray holding it?
Dave P--Thanks, if I can get the switch out I can inspect and hopefully repair
ENGR if the switch is bad and cannot be repaired, I'll contact you.

heater panel

Yes, the screws by the ashtray hold the heater panel in place. Be careful when you pull the panel away from the console, one of the switches has a thin tube connected to the back of it. I assume it has a gas charge in it for temperature control. It is very small diameter and will break easily. Of course this is the one that is broken on my parts car. See the picture attached.

Good luck.
