I want to purchase a 126 for my wife. We live in Minnesota so we would prefer a gasoline engine in order to make her life easy during the winter. Which 126 has proven to be the most trouble free? We own a 380se, which has been very good to us with close to 192K miles, I would however, like to get her something newer. Thanks in Advance, Alan

From what I have heard the 420sel is a good strong car. I have never owned one but some people swear by them.

560 SEL!

This is a biased opinion of course, but a later model 560 SEL, is a good bet. Post '88, so you don't run into the soft cam issue (I think that's the year). Also, the timing chain last longer than the 420 SEL. My MB tech said he has never replaced one on a 560 SEL. Plus, you have that 238 hp on tap. Worse mpg of course. Don't get wrong, 420 SEL is a wonderful car, just my opinion.

Good luck!

My recommendations would be for a 300SE. As described above, it has all the economics lining in to applaud its decision, from fuel consumption to procurement of parts (which happens to have the cheapest parts on comparison amongst other W126 models).

Power-wise, it delivers where it matters.

The only disadvantage : production stopped in 1991 (from what I know).
