1998 air mass meter
My 1998 C230 that I have owned for 6 months has given me my first problem.
It stalled and would'nt start. It would turn over and stall out. My first time mechanic says it is the air mass meter and the bill is a rude awakaning to the world of Mercedes ownership. Is there any way for me to confirm that his diagnosis is correct? Again it is the first time with this recommended mechanic from the previous owner and I haven't built that trust yet. Thanx |

Pretty sure an air mass meter would not prevent the engine from starting.
Maybe something like a crankshaft postition sensor ( vital to starting ). Has anybody checked things like spark, fuelpump, etc. ? Is this guy an M-B mechanic? ![]() What makes him so sure it is the air mass meter?

A MAS fault ought to light up your check engine light as it is emissions related.
If the light is on the first thing to do is to read the codes with a scanner.
