My driving lights are all sandblasted dull. I've got new Bosch lens and wonder do I have to take the inner plastic off from the fenders to get at the light which seems to be bolted to the inside of the bumper. Is this something a DIY guy can do in the driveway or better left to the dealer to install? Anybody out there who has tackled this task who can give up some pointers? Thanx much.Tchuss

Jim,

Definitely a DIY. I just replaced the passenger side a few weeks ago and I did not remove the plastic liner. There is a little door right beneath the light assembly (for changing bulbs) you can get you hand into and then I used a socket on the end of a short screwdriver to remove the three retaining screws for the whole light assembly (one on each side and one on the top - to get at the one on the top I removed the back of the assembly as if I were changing the bulb then you can see it). Once the assembly is loose you can pop off the lens and work the lens out of the opening, work the new lens in and then reassemble. I could not get the whole assembly out as it wouldn't fit. Having said all this, it might be easier to remove the plastic wheel liner since you need to jack the car up anyway to get under it! Maybe you could remove some of the screws up front and just pull it down enough to get access.

Thanx Mr. G

I did go thru the little door under the bumper and saw the mounting screws...didn't know there was a top one though. I'll give it another shot when my knuckles heal up. Come to think of it, my lady has small hands...Thanx again. I appreciate your valuable experience in this matter.

You might just take the extra 2 minutes and remove the entire engine tray as there are only half a dozen screws. Working threw the little access door is just to aggrevating unless you know exactly where you need to go.

I need to do this replacement as well, are you going to use any protective film for the newly installed units?

I do not plan on any protective film usage...I think I can spring for new OEM lens every couple of years if need be... they were about $70 each. I haven't heard good things on the film...they yellow after a while and still won't stop a rock from cracking the lens. Do you give a thumbs up on them? Are there better films than others? Educate me. I just got this car and am freshening up the front end with new euro-lites , driving light lens, and a new grill. Just had the bumper/lowers painted to match the rest of the car which is spruce green. The stock lite green lowers didn't do it for me, kinda reminds me of the goo that comes out a bugs ass when you squeeze 'em.
