Replacing front outer CV Boot 1999 E320

Hello,
I"m going to replace the left front cv boot on our 1999 E320 4matic wagon. I don't have any service manual's so I thought I would ask if anyone has a sequence on this job. On our 1992 300te i was able to remove the axle nut and turn the tire as far as it would go and slip out the axle. I'm not sure if the axle just pulls out of the transaxle or is the something else. Also, is there an inner clip on the outer cv joint to remove the joint.
Thanks,
Steve

hope you like axle grease.

I've done this a dozen or so times, but exact procedure slips my mind at the moment. there isn't a clip inside, just pull once you get the axle out. getting the end of the axle off can be difficult too, almost to the point where it seems like you're doing something wrong. it will however eventualy come off.

I can't recall but the caliper may have to come off and an upper nut(?) may have to be removed as well to let you swing the end of the axle out of the hub. once the axle is loose from the hub, remove the lower shock bolt and pry down on the lower control arm against the subframe, unless you would rather remove the whole arm which would make it easier to get the axle out, but more work overall, plus alignment.
