83 240D In fact in the engine compartment there is a plastic yellow distribution valve which takes one vacuum line and transfers it to the 4 or 5 lines that go in to the car. I see vacuum before it, but not after.
Also at the rear vacuum tank, I cannot draw a vacuum at the yellow intake line. There may be a unsealed sytem elsewhere.
Finally the front driver door cant lock except by key when you are outside car.(You cant push the button down manually)
I know, its just an 83 240D but I want it to bethe best one.
Is the yellow thing a problem component?

The yellow "thing" is a check valve. It could be brittle and have a small crack somewhere that is causing the vacuum leak. It is very inexpensive to replace.

All Mercedes Benz driver's side door locks require the key to lock from the outside. You can't push the door lock down like you can in an american car. Had a BMW that was the same way. Must be the German way of not letting you lock your keys in the car!

But you should still be able to push down the door lock with the door closed and you inside the car. but not when the door is open. If you're inside the car, and can't lock the door, then you have a problem. Open the door up and see what's happening in there. Hope you have been able to fix your problem since you posted.
