'96 E320 Check Engine light
I own a '96 E320 and my "Check Engine" light is lit and it also states "Engine Electronics". Any comments before I schedule an appointment for repair? Thanks.

No, not tooo much to tell. Need to get the trouble code read out and go from there. You should know that you can't forget to put the gas cap back on when you're through fuelling or not to leave the engine run when you're fuelling, these will set codes do to the engine control unit sensing a "major purge leak". You could have a purge leak problem anyways, even without forgetting these steps, all OBD II cars are very sensitive to this. A few other common problems are oxygen sensors and mass airflow sensors. But this is all speculation and crystal ball reading. You need to start by getting the codes read......Gilly

The 1996 E320 doesn't have gas cap monitor! The V-8's did have monitor in 1996, have codes read so that you know what EMISSION fault there is.

Hmmm, well your the Master Guild Tech, but I would swear on a stack of ETM's that 96's are all OBDII cars. Call me crazy, but seems to me these would all have the fuel tank monitored. At any rate, the advice remains the same, that he needs to get it in and see what the code/codes is/are.....Gas Cap Gilly
