117 AMG engine in a 300CE

1 Attachment(s)
does anyone know where to get any information for the 117 AMG engine shown below? it is basically a high output 117 V-8. i saw the pictures here on the forum years ago, and am actually working on the same car at my new job in costa mesa, the engine was just rebuilt for 23k, it starts and runs, but seems to have some control issues. has a surging idle, the one thing i have found were steel injectors, after replacing them it runs alot better and does not miss. but still has the surge, when i disconnect the computer the engine still surges. i found today that the mount for the crank sensor had been modified, to the point that the sensor it's self had to be shimmed so it wouldn't hit the flywheel, i am sure the air gap between the sensor and the flywheel may be off, does any one know how critical this is? or what the gap may be? the car is a 300CE modified for this engine, when i run the vin, it was originally fitted with a 104 engine. any info appreciated

just wanted to post an update,i ordered a new bracket for the crank sensor and installed it, that took care of the severe surging, so as i thought, it is very critical to have that in the proper position, now it runs great.
tomorrow i will have to diagnose the high idle, there is no voltage to the idle control valve. hopefully i will get to drive it tomorrow.
the guy who worked on this prior to me was a real hack!! i found he had glued and used a zip tie for the connector from the fuel distributor to the throttle valve:eek: .
we spent the better of two days fixing all of his mistakes. it looked like it had been to tijuana for the final assembly.

Yikes!

BTW.. there was never a 6.6 DOHC. IF you have a cover for the distributor cap like on the 560's.... then you either have a 5.6 DOHC or 6.0 DOHC. Either way, RARE as hen's teeth engines:D

I don't think there is room enough to go to a 6.6.. I know by the time you reach 6L the bore is maxed and I beleive stoke is too...

Should be quite the runner either way!

the block is actually now a 117 california model, they had to use that since the original was damaged beyond repair. the rebuilers installed sleeves, it may or may not be 6.6 now
