I have notice that my car is hard to start but not always.
Here is how it goes: 1. Cold start=starts right up. No problem 2. Drive for 20-30 minutes. Turn car off. Immediately crank car up, no problem 3. Drive for 20-30 minutes. Turn car off. Wait 15-20 minutes. Car has a hard time cranking on the first try. Usually doesn't start. If you wait 1-2 minutes, then crank again. Car cranks right up, no problem. Like it forgot it had a problem the first time. Any ideas... |
It's the overvolt relay, 95% sure. Same thing with my car and I bought the overvolt relay and it cured the problem. It is very common problem. If I am not mistaken, your car should have one. I am doubting myself because your car is an 85, but this is a very common problem. Someone correct me if I am wrong. You can get a new overvolt protection relay for about $50 here at partsshop.

Sounds like it too.
My mechanic would be kind enough to loan us the part to see if its at fault before purchasing it. :) |
If I'm not mistaken, I got that part a while back. Swapped out. Small black boxy looking thing with prongs, white letters on the side?? I took it to the mechanic (who let me try it out first) and he said he thought it was the same thing.
Granted, this new part helped a lot, as before it really would not crank consistently at all, but I still have the same problem... |
Is your fuel pump working right?
Spark plugs ok? Where's Benzmac, MBDoc or Steve? |
Are you sure you got the updated OVP relay?? What part number is in your car?
Has your fuel pump relay been changed? |
