aluminum radiator for 92 300E (124) Help?
I have been having a very difficult time looking for an aluminum radiator for a 92 300E 3.0 I6 with an automatic trans. The reason for the aluminum radiator is the car over heat's very easily and the plastic sides of the stock ones keep cracking and we are fed up with it.
So can does anybody have any info on where we can get one? If not than we will just have to have one custom made to fit the 300E. And yes I know that if it is over heating just the new radiator wont completely fix that lol. We just want one without the darn plastic side's! Thank you |

As for your radiator breakage, this has been covered numerous times... check your motor mounts if it breaks the hose barbs, and deal with the fact that MB Behr radiators last about 8-10 years. If yours is cracking header tanks, it sounds like you've got other problems - Running proper coolant & maintaining proper coolant temps, plus not over-torquing the hose clamps, it should last at least 8-10 years, if not more.
There's more to swapping in a non-MB radiator than just telling the builder that you want a radiator that's size X"xY"xZ" - you also have to consider shrouding placemant, line placement, trans cooler efficiency, sealing at header panel to insure goes through the radiator as designed, etc... But if you so choose, Griffin makes great radiators- for a price - that's often the cost of 2 Behr replacements Be certain that cooling system is bled free of air pockets as well - |

I think the company is called Wizardcooling or something like that, a quick search of the diesel forum will turn them up. They have done some work in the past for a few members and it seemed to work out well.
Since they seem to charge about $400-$500 for a radiator this option is actualy pretty good for us SDL owners! The plastic OE radiators should be good for 10-20 years before failure. If you are having failure and overheating problems on new Behr radiators then your car has other issues.
