560 sel quit running and won't start

ok here we go one thing after another. was driving at lunch didn't make a mile and car felt like it was chocking and stoped and now won't start. fuel pump is running getting current to the icv if that matters. is this a fuel pump relay problem?

nhdoc 09-26-2006 07:32 AM

If the pump is running and fuel is flowing I doubt it is fuel related.

If it were me I would check the crankshaft position sensor...there seem to be quite a few of them going bad lately. I think it is only about $50 and causes the symptoms you describe.

560sel/no spark

i agree pickup from bell housing they are dropping like flies.

For future reference....

1) Where is this sensor located?
2) I don't see "crankshaft sensor" on Fastlane, is it a dealer part?
3) How does this sensor look like?

Luckily my car is running fine *knock on wood*, but if I were to have a problem like this, I'd know where to look.

Is your 'check engine' light on?

johnlo 09-27-2006 07:57 AM

yes the light is on but only when i turn the lights on does the engine light show.

johnlo 09-27-2006 01:01 PM

spoke with a mercedes benz shop and they said that the 560 1990 doesn't have a crankshaft position sensor

wbain5280 09-27-2006 01:16 PM

Find another shop.

L5 will do it.

Test the on-off ratio usinf pins 2 and 3 of the X-11 socket.

More on the engine:

You're on disc 2 and click on the 'more' arrow a few times

Do an advanced search in the tech forum for duty+cycle. Read the posts and there will be some pics. Tip, 300SE/L's use the same injection system as your car with 2 fewer cylinders.

Check this post,

http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/tech-help/91938-300se-w126-will-not-start.html?highlight=push

and read post #11.

This is a good post:

http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/tech-help/158920-duty-cycle-reading-questions.html

as is this one:

http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/tech-help/161055-sears-multimeter-82139-duty-cycle-check.html?highlight=duty+cycle

read the posts, study the situation and diagnose it, check the basics.
