With all the recent discussion on OVP problems, I decided to check mine to see if it had ever been replaced - nothing in any of the records to indicate it, but I learned to distrust the previous owner's tech. My relay is a single 10A fuse, red top, ink stamped on 1 side 7477-2387, and the other side has the part number 201 540 08 45 5kwk4010. The fuse is still good, but I presume the 2387 number indicates that the OVP is the one that came with the car. When it is replaced, should it be replaced with the same part, or the larger twin fuse OVP (or is this even possible).

Also, in front of the OVP socket there is a rectangular opening about 2X the size of the OVP socket, but it is empty - no socket, just a frame opening. What was this used for?

Thanks for any info!

The one on your car will look look the same.

We sell them if you need them...Look in fastlane.

John,
I recently ordered a new OVP for my 88 300CE. They did update to double 10A fuses. I can check part number for you tomorrow.
I'm not too sure about the empty space. My car doesn't have it.

Vinamg:

Hi: were you ever able to find a part # on the updated component? I am not in a great hurry, just planning on replacing a few older components before they fail, and starting with things that may be contributing to my lower than expected mpg (~21-22 hiway at 70mph, unimproved by a tuneup). I also plan on having some spares for things that could leave me stranded.

John,

Sorry about the delay, I was just too busy. Here is the part # for updated OVP 201-540-37-45.

JCE - what kind of gas mileage are you expecting (hoping?) to get? My '87 has been getting from 21-22 mpg highway since as long as I can remember. I didn't know it got any better than that.

Since replacing my OVP, gas mileage has gone from 20 mpg to 25 mpg.

OVP (Again)

I have not had any problems with the OVP Relay yet and am currently getting 22-23 in town and back and forth to work
(rural driving < 60MPH) and 26 on the Hwy @ 75-80MPH. My E
has 143K on it and still running good. It is starting to take a little longer to start after it sits for a few days
so I believe that I may need to replace the check valve in the fuel pump. Still the original OVP though. I have been using Mid grade fuel 89 oct and it runs the same as it did on Premium 91 oct.

JCE, if you replace your relay, could you post back with any results?

thanks,
anthony
