low idle

need help 560 sel 1990 idles very low and will stall after running when i slow down. if i pull the connector off the icv no increase in idle. have took it off and cleaned it last week. car at the moment sounds like a diesel with the rattling.is this from the icv also?

did you check the ov realy and fuse? it is the red one by the firewall

Idle valve supplied with power from the OVP. You should have power at one of the wires at the idle valve from that. Ground is supplied either from the engine control module (I believe this is correct) or an idle control unit. Check for power first and let us know. If there is no power and the fuse in the OVP is OK, then probably needs a new OVP. Or some guys I guess like to repair the OVP.

do i check it with an ohm meter? which one goes to red and black? not sharp on these things?just need to fix this need to go out of town friday about a 3 hour trip one way and want to be safe. would this ovp also cause the ecomony setting to go in the red at idle. economy is good on the highway. as i said the motor sounds like a deisel at low speeds an idle. i appreciater everyone's help here.

checked all of the rubber connectors and replaced some of them

You check it with a volt meter, black to ground or the negative battery post, pull the connector off the valve and ONE of those wires should have voltage.
Not sure on the ecoomy gauge.
Peter, a vac leak "usually" leads to high idle not low.

If it's big enough (torn boot between air meter horn and throttle body or really bad idle control valve hoses), the computer cannot compensate with enrichment and it will lope and stagger from lean mixture.

will get new hoses for the icv they both have cracks.now if i can get the car to start again. drove it for a mile acted like it was choking and stopped on the side of the road and it acts like it isn't getting gas. fuel pump hummming and gas at the fuel dist, how do you check the fuel dist or should i be looking else where?

check the big main vacuum hose to the brake booster and see if cracked.
