I have a 1988 190e 2.3. I have the CD-rom for this car recieved the motor mounts and tranny mount from Fastlane. I started by jacking the car up, putting on jacks and trying to reach the top bolt on the driver side mount. I could not reach it from above. When I crawled under the car, I could get my hand on it, but there was not nearly enough room to get a wrench on it to unscrew the bolt. The CD-Rom's description of how to remove the bolt was not very discriptive.

If one of you has done this on this particular engine (4 cyl 2.3 gas, please tell me how you got the top bolt off the driver side mount. Any help appreciated, thanks.

I have not remove engine just on that type MB. Other models, I have open bolts of transmission end bracket from chassis and let back of transmission down 10-15cm. That gives more room to open bolts, back of engine. Some times i have taken the engine and transmission out at the same time.

This is the most difficult bolt to take out. It's been a while and I forgot what tool I used. Try going from the top with socket, long extensions and swivel joint. If not, it has to be from bottom with closed wrench or socket. I know the 6 cyl can be done from top in between intake manifold or from bottom, with some difficulty as well.

I took the air cleaner off to try from the top, but there did not appear to be enough room to do it, I have $150.00 worth of parts here:(

I did this about a year ago on my Dad's 1991 190E 2.3. My solution was to go from the top. There is a manifold support bracket directly above the bolt that needs to be removed, I think there are three bolts for the bracket. Once the bracket is removed you can get a socket/extension/universal joint on the bolt by going through one of the openings in the manifold. Good luck.

I find it easier to remove the mount bracket from the block and drop it out as a unit. Then remove the mount.
