stuck moonroof on 85 300TD

I have a 85 300TD - the moon-roof is open about halfway and won't close. Not getting any sound when i press the button to open/close. Where should I start? it's going to rain tomorrow afternoon! from what I've been told, this has happened before with the car, but after fully charging the battery (need to test the alternator) I had no problem with it. Any ideas? thanks

yours has a glass roof? if it is metal, then it is considered a sun roof.

Isnt there a manual open/close in the trunk? Mine has one that takes a 5/8" socket to manually close it.

battery issue? where in trunk?

I"ll have to check - where abouts in the trunk would it be? If the battery is low, but still enough to start could that impact the sun roof? thanks

i thought there may have been some option for a glass unit, on my bmw 733i all i had ever seen were metal ones, but i ran across a few that were glass on ebay. have someone push the button while you listen in the trunk, if the motor is running but the roof is not moving the clutch in the gear unit might be slipping

Check the 25 amp fuse FIRST.

Remove the rear left side panel to expose the sunroof drive motor assembly (there may be a small access panel for this purpose). See below.

Yours is a wagon right? If not, look in the trunk on the upper left side, at the top, near the front (you may have to pull the top of the side panel a little to expose the drive and you will seea a large plastic nut 21mm(?) on the drive assembly, use a socket turn the nut to close/open the roof in emergency.

See link for further help. There is a clutch that can be adjusted (only uf that is the problem)

Hope this helps,

the wagon has a mechanical sunroof, so i doubt he has a wagon, the T in his TD is likely meant for turbo diesel, rather than touring as in a wagon.

I said "If it is not a wagon....."

Check the 25 amp fuse FIRST. Remove the fuse to properly check it.
