This is for a 1983 240D.

The black surround around the rear bumper is crackled. The plastic/rubber material is intact, but the finish is black with gray/yellow crackles in it.

Does anyone know of or recommend a solution for this? It seems like painting with a flat or even semi-gloss paint would not even come close to matching in color and probably would not stick. I am guessing that the only solution is to replace the part, but I thought I would ask.

I wanted to get this back on the front page.

Doesn't someone have at least a comment?

Maybe try reposting in the detailing section. I have heard that you can repaint them but you have to add a plasticizer to the mix so that the paint won't peel off. If you are going to replace the parts, try looking in the junkyards for replacements that are in good shape.

i agree with SW

Painting repairing this will leave yo being unsaisfied with the results. Ive tried fooling around with this part after i was rear-ended and their insurance co. paid for repairs, and tried fixing it myself, but ended up buying the part new anyways. If you try repainting it ill wear off quickly.
