Do the roll bars pop up rather quickly, or slowly as though you were just pushing the raise switch? They do lower down again after they come up using the switch?
What lights come on when stepping on the brake? You mean the illumination bulbs, or some warning lights? Any damage history to the car, how long have you owned it? This a USA car? Gilly

1995 E320 gremlins
Is your car garaged or do you park outside most of the time?
I ask because I have a 1994 E320 cab with 110,000 miles ... and it started acting odd around 65,000 miles, too, after one winter when I had to leave it parked it outside. I'm not sure if rain/moisture leaked in via the soft top and goofed things up or what; but ever since the automatic seatbelt (passenger side) starts operating by itself unless I keep it clicked it in. The turn signals frequently fail when humidity is high (despite replacement of both the combo switch AND the hazard switch) and the yellow warning light on the dash (that indicates a bulb failure) comes on when I hit the brakes even though all the bulbs are okay -- but the warning occurs only in daytime use! If I turn on the headlights, it warning light doesn't illuminate when I hit the brakes. Very weird. I've asked for advice here ... but no luck. As for the gas smell, that's likely a rubber connector line that could be failing. Once you start driving, the gas evaporates and so the smell fades. One way to check: After the car has not been operating for awhile (like overnight), pop open the hood before you start the engine and see if the smell is noticeable. Then start the engine and see if the smell rises or you can detect any leakage or wet areas in the gasoline line around the engine. There are also rubber connector lines beneath the car, back by the rear passenger-side wheel. Mine began leaking about a year ago. You could see the drip (and notice the smell) when the car was idling or when I came to a stop; in my case, it was the return line that was leaking but I replaced both. |

Q) Is your car garaged or do you park outside most of the time?
A) yes, for the last 5 years, but before i dont really know.. looks like it was... it was in FL. If I turn on the headlights, it warning light doesn't illuminate when I hit the brakes. Very weird. I've asked for advice here ... but no luck. A) any of the things you said may be true... But I have not even driven this car in the rain in 2 yeras Q) As for the gas smell, that's likely a rubber connector line that could be failing. A) This is wierd , i dont smell the gas until i start the car... Cant seem to find where it coming from,, And i have looked hard.. But it's getting worse so either i will find it or it will blow. |
