Head gasket replament steps
Can someone please provide the steps to replace the head gaskets on a 113 motor. Tourqe for head bolts, how to lock the the cams, do the cam chains need to be removed to remove heads? Any help will be appriciated.

set the motor to 40deg, but youll need special tools to lock the cams, #'s 112-589-01-32-00 112-589-00-32-00.
theres also a torque sequence for the cam bridges that you'll need. unfortunatly i can't quite figure out how to copy the document onto here. after you set the motor to 40 (so you can insert the cam locks), hold the chain to the sprockets with zipties and take the alternator and chain tensioner out. then you can remove the bolts holding the sprockets to the cams and let them sit loose. |

Thanks guys, where do the cam locks go? Do I just remove the 10 large bolts and pull off the head? John, you talk about the cam bridge, do I need to remove all the bolts tha thold on the rocker?

yes, if i remember right theres about 14 or so per side.
I use a 27mm or whatever it is wrench to counter hold when breaking the bolts loose. the cam locks insert into the notches in the camshafts just behind the sprockets on both sides. with the motor at 40, they should be lined up perfectly for the locks to slide in place. bolt the locks in place with two valve cover bolts in the holes directly 'above' the sprocket. |
