There are no regular-gas Mercedes still on the road.

Well, some antique collectors may drive theirs occasionally.

It all says you have to use premium!

Here is a quote from the technical editor of The Star, the magazine of the Mercedes Benz Club of America:

Quote:

Knock sensors are not designed to allow use of lower-octane fuel. ... By running lower octane fuel, you keep ignition timing in a permanent state of retard, which is unhealthy for the engine. ... To use the knock sensor's capability to cheap out on fuel is a foolish mistake.
Yeah, there's lots of discussion by any advice that regular fuel is usable is mistaken and just wishful thinking.

If you want to use regular fuel, get an American car.

That is, one with an oversize, slow-running, low compression engine.

The octane number in Germany is the same as here.
RON ( Research Octane Number ) + MON ( Motor Octane Number ) : 2 = our rating system.
How do I know?..............Just filled up over there 2 weeks ago. ;)
