W124 center console wood panel removal
I need to remove the center console wood panel in order to replace a power window switch which is broken. I read the "do it yourself" article on this forum but it mentions removing the center carpet and loosening the screw below. Mine does not have carpet but a wood panel. I also read the Mercedes CD manual which states the same thing i.e: removing the center carpet. I am really confused here. Mine has a wood panel which appears to be completely unremovable.
Does anyone know how to remove this thing? I attached two pictures below. Thanks for any help. http://64.23.7.177/images/photo01.jpg http://64.23.7.177/images/photo02.jpg |
It appears the previous owner added the wood panel ... it's definitley not factory-installed. Use a pick or something small to lift it without damaging the surround. Hopefully it's not held in place with a strong adhesive.

you may want to try using a heat gun or possibly a home hair dryer on that wood panel to loosen adhesive....
if the panel doesn't come up easily...measure center at the top of the wood piece. then dremel or roto zip 1/8-1/4 inch each side of center... the small screw should be there to take out.. you would probably re-finish the wood anyway... that's what i would do if it wouldn't come out easily. the concept of the wood is great...but someone did not allow for future repairs. |
The wood inside the tray isn't normally there - it has been added by the PO. There is a screw where the two wood panels meet, it has been buried by the new piece of wood. You need to get the new piece of wood out and get to that screw!
