Overheating CLK 320

My 1998 CLK 320 temperature all of a sudden is running hot. It did not go into the red but was higher than normal and inching up on a cool night. There seems to be no coolant leak, no smoke and the coolant level is good. The car is running ok.

Any suggestions on what it could be would be very helpful. This car is starting to be a handful. Thank you.

Perhaps you need a new thermostat. I presume the coolant level is OK. How many miles on your CLK320?

First off, how hot does it get?

It could either be a coolant flow problem or an airflow problem or a combination of both. Does it only warm up in traffic, or does it do so on the open road as well?

Thanks for the relpy gentlemen. The car has almost 70,000 miles. The coolant level is fine and it was happening on a cool night with no traffic. Also it did not get to the red but the way it was going if I let the the car idle for another 20 minutes it would have gone there I think.
