Need instructions on how to remove the interior door lock actuator (the knob on the door panel you press with your thumb to lock the doors). The instructions I have say to 'press off and pull out'. Well, it's not pressing off and I'm afraid to press any harder than I am. Clearer instructions or confirmation of this procedure would be great. If you can help...thanks!

Hi,,

Sorry to say that I don't have a solution to your problem. I was wondering from where you got that first instruction. 'press off and pull out'?? Do you have like a service manual/CD for R129 or have you just heard about the removal procedure for this knob? I've been looking for such a manual/CD. That's why I'm asking.

Hope someone solves your problem!

Currently I use http://www.alldatadiy.com/ (annual subscribtion $19.95). Not too bad, but sometimes incomplete. Until the official manuals are made available, that's all I got (or help from sites like this, when I can get it, but not very much information available to us on R129's right now). I'm VERY annoyed at Mercedes for not making those manuals available!!!!!! That car is 10 years old now, things are starting to wear and I would like to do some of the 'fun' stuff myself.

I agree,, I really don't like the subscribtion-thing so I guess I'll just have to wait for the manual. Have they made any announcement when they'll release it?? We could always spam them with mails, , :)

Could you please post in the forum if you hear any news in the topic!?

I haven't heard anything about a 129 CD-ROM yet, they just came out wih more old chassis CD's. I don't know for sure, could be they will wait until after production stops, which is later this year, I heard. But I wouldn't hold my breath. You need disassembly instructions for the wooden panel up by the radio and climate controls?......Gill

I got the door panel off this week-end. The instructions on AllData's site are accurate (just a bit vague), as with the knob removal. I tried everyone's suggestions with no luck (I didn't want to put any more pressure on it than I was). So, I left it until the last hoping that I would get a clue as to how to get it off, when actually trying to remove the door panel. Well...the pressure of the loose panel against the knob popped it right off! The knob has a long shaft off the back of it with 2 notched prongs at the end that snap into a slot. If you could actually get a grip on the knob, it would probably simply pull off (with some considerable pressure). I guess the suggestion of inserting a screw driver into the back for leverage makes sense now. Anyway all done with this project. Thanks for the help! PS-Gil I was also told that the CD-ROM would be released at the end of production. Oh, I don't need instructions on wood console removal, but thanks.

Just to proceed with the topic..

For a while I've been looking for instructions to remove the plastic cover under the glove compartment. It's attached with 5 screws (I think) but even with the screws removed I can't get the cover off. What I'm trying to do is to get a visual inside the panel (behind the radio) to follow up some cables that are a little suspect so it's not important that the instructions are for that exact cover. That was just a guess from my side of a good way to get in there. Maybe Mark could be kind enough to look at your Alldata-site??

Emilo...May I mention that the radio and climate control are easily removed (with the radio keys). That might be easiest and give the clearest view behind the radio. However, I went to AllData's site and there is a diagram and instructions for removing the glove box. I also found instructions for removing the tray under the dash if that will help. Do you have a fax number? I'd be happy to fax them to you.
