It's developing some engine shake (a kind of stuttering) when accelerating. In netural I reved the engine, and when it reached about 4200 RPMs it started to shake. Fine until it reached that RPM, but when it hit 4200 it would shake and shudder consistently.

I plan to get it to a mechanic soon, but not sure how urgent the problem is?

Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks -

One possiblity is a coil or plug wire breaking down. I wouldn't put it off too long.

Have no Fear.
Your E320 has a 4200rpm limiter . It only limits when in P/N. As soon as the speed sensor sees vehicle movement,
it is out of the circuit.
According to the data I have, the reasoning for this feature is to protect the torque converter from high rpm damage at stand=still.
For a test, drive the car 10 mph, shift to N and watch the tach with some gas. Should go right up to 6K with no problems.
It took me many moons to find this out , so there you gooooo....

Arthur .... I didn't know that you also had a 95 wagon. Interesting bit of info; I'll test it tonight in my wife's 95 E320 wagon.
