Will the battery drain if doors & trunk left open?
 

Will the battery drain if doors & trunk are left open for 4-5 days in a 97 E420? I noticed that all the interior lights go out after a few minutes, and also the trunk light can be deactivated by pulling the gray knob. So is battery power still getting consumed at this point.

I'm asking b/c i left the doors open, made sure all the lights were out, and then when i came back after 4 days the battery is completely dead, no lights, no crank, nothing.

On my 1995 E320 wagon, you can turn the rear interior lights off with a switch on the dash. You can also turn the front dome light off by moving the switch on it, so it is possible to leave all 5 doors open and not have any interior lights illuminated. If the lights are not on, there is no additional drain on the battery. There are some systems of the vehicle that do require battery power to maintain there status while the car isn't running. I know that the radio is one. Don't know of the others. Dusty......

What I would have done is just tape down the door open sensors.

I think the answer is yes; and suggest you jump start the car. If it starts with a boost, then you know the answer. However, the battery may be weak; how old is it?

What I would have done is disconnect the battery negative lead. It's under the plastic panel at the base of the rear seat.

If the battery is older than 6yrs I'd just replace it. Seems like once a 6yr old battery goes dead, it's just a matter of time before it'll leave you stranded.
