I've been a MBCA member for years and believe the magazine is worth the price of membership. I also suspect your choice of section (you can choose so I am told; if you do not choose they will assign you to the closest section) will determine your level of satisfaction. International Stars section is VERY active in Michigan and offers a wide variety of things for many interests. Check the MBCA website and look up each section in the region to see which appears most active in your area of interest.

Join the club, you will not be disappointed.

You can also attend any event any section puts on. If you see something you like in a neighboring section, you can attend.

I tried it for a year. Being so isolated, the section events seemed centered on brunches and being seen in the cars as opposed to knowing much about them. I was a frequent user of their forum, but have to admit that I didn't agree much with treating non-member MB owners, who tried to participate on the forum, like flea infested hounds until they became members.

On a nationwide basis the club is weak compared to bmwcca, IMO The demographics are older, hence the trips to candle factories and Sunday brunches. Track days are rare. Plus, the club went through a schism some years back about the Star publisher, who is no Satch Carlson. Club politics over this blowup reminded me of one of Henry Kissinger's rare insights: "University
politics are vicious precisely because the stakes are so small."

That said, if you're in the Detroit area, the International Stars is one of the more active chapters.

All in all, I think this forum is the best thing to happen to the "true users" of the Mercedes.
This has changed. We have a new publisher for The Star that will keep it more centered on the club. This will not impact the quality of the publication. You also gain access to the club forums which can be valuable as well.

and if you want a track day or a tech session or something else that your section doesn't do, then step up and VOLUNTEER and set it up. I don't know of a section anywhere that will turn down an offer of help setting up an event.

Wow, that sounds like joining a church. Still, I bet it's more fun.
