230te damp idling problem
 

88 230te 124, the car starts and runs fine in good weather, but when its rainning or damp it starts ok but idles badly until you get it hot. if you put in drive there is no go. its also intermitent, if you up the revs it will pick up and run ok, you put in drive and it will go but as soon as you stop at the lights it will hunt badly until it gets well warm. any suggestions will be welcome.

I would say plug leads, and check the distributor too. It should have both a protective cap on the front and a seal under the cap to keep moisture out.
If the leads are old, change em. Lift the bonnet at night and look at the car when running on a damp day or just mist the whole area with a squirt bottle and look for fireworks!

Hi, if you spray your high tension wires with wd-40. Before getting in to start the car on a wet morning for example. If car is okay then it is the wires. Also you could take a spray bottle of water and spray the wires only when they are good and dry. If car acts up you have it again. If not try the distributor exterior next.. The wd-40 repels water for a few days to give you a temporary cure as well. That aids in positive diagnosis. Just nice to be certain before you spend money. Also as someone mentioned you might visulise the sparks leaving the wires at night. But the other two methods are prefered by me.
