450se tranny not responding URGENT!!!
Hello all, i have a serious problem.Ysterday i drove my 450se 1979 w116 to school, shops etc. Drove normal no problem whatsoever. Drove to the gas station, about a block from the station i heard a strange niose, followed by a shuddering coming from the tranny. I parked at the gas station filled up with gas, and checked tranny fluid with car idling and in park. The fluid was way up on the dipstick, about 2inches above the top mark. When i shut the car of and it sat for about 15 min. i checked the fluid again with the engine off, and the fluid wwas on the same mark, about 2inches above top mark.
i started the car measured fluid level and it did not lower at all. So my thinking is that either the metal lips on the torque converter driving the tranny pump broke, or the gear inside the tranny pump broke. please what do the experts on this forum have to say on this, i would like some input before i yank the tranny tomorrow... |
forgot to state that after filling with gas, and starting the car, i put in drive and nothing trtanny does not engage, not reverse nothing, then i started checking the fluid as stated above

Have you looked at the drive shaft & output flange at the rear of the trans..are they moving with trans in gear?

problem solved!!
Just a bit of feedback, so i took out the tranny, and saw the following: The two metal prongs on the torque converter broke of. I opened the front of the tranny took out the oilpump and found that the small gear that is driven by the torque converter, broke in half, thus jamming the pump and snapping off the drives from the torque converter.
i got a secondhand pump and torque converter from the breakers yard, fitted the tranny, car runs like new. |
