W210 E320 Headlights
I had the lamp out warning come on on our '98 E320. This has happened several times before, so I checked which bulb (inner light on passenger side) and replaced the bulb.
I didn't even check it before buttoning everything up - it's always the bulb, right? Well this time no. So I take it apart again and check the voltage on the connector - Nothing. Drivers side lamp is on. Decided to leave it until morning (Cold out there tonight!). Question - Is there an individual fuse for each headlight? I did check two fuse boxes - under hood and under back seat - but not the one near the light switch - (Now that might have made sense ) if not fuse, what else could it be? |

The other wire, the ground?? Know how to test continuity to ground? Or you're sure the power wire was dead? At a loss here. Bad headlamp switch possibly.

How hard was it to change the bulb?

A post that you had made earlier came up in a "search" - It made me look for the "other" bulb on the high beam headlight. I had assumed that the one bulb served both daytime driving light/parking and high beam with separate filaments. Now that I think about it, this is of course unlikely in what is a halogen bulb. Anyway, once I figured out that I had to twist the smaller bulbs holder to remove it, the job was done An mbruce - yes changing the bulbs is easy, once you find out which one it is! Graham |

Oh so you went after the high beam bulb instead of the small "running light" bulb, yeah there right over each other, easy to do. The small bulb you need to replace is also a halogen bulb, just like a small map light bulb though, size of a pinkie, the high beam is more like a thumb.

Now today, the lamp out warning came on again - this time other side and high beam. Just as well I bought a spare for each size! |

There was a kit you could buy that helped those small bulbs last longer, depends on the year on if you need it.
