I am looking for a used car for my son. I am thinking about a 190E, preferably 2.6, for son. What are the unique mechanical weaknesses of this model? What should I be sure to check for? Are there better model years?
Thanks, RS 400E |

Great cars. You can't go wrong with the 2.6, but be advised re the "valve seal, valve guide issue". Get as late a model as you can, take care of it and enjoy..

190 E 2.6 models are very reliable. The problems they have are valve guides/seals on early models and just the valve seals on the later 1989 and up. This is not a major repair but the car will have excessive oil consumption.
The other problem is the automatic climate control is suseptible to problems. Make sure it works properly on a vehicle that you are purchasing or factor it into the price. These cars will go for 100s of thousands of miles with routine maintenance.
