380 engine woes
Last spring the 380 ate a timing chain guide rail on the left side. Bent some valves, put a hole in #6. Finally got it back together. Thanks for all the help and advice.
Cranking it with the starter all is good. When it is running I'm getting a loud metalic knock on the right side, sounds high on the engine around #1 & #2. Did a compression check. #1 is 140, the 2-4 are around 180. I don't remember exactly, but I don't think the valve timing on the right side was off during the timing chain incident so I don't think I have any bent valves on the right side, but oboviously something is going on. Any ideas? |
Ah... I will hate the day that my 380 does this. Its only a matter of time. @ 268K, I have no idea when/if the chain/rails/guides/tensioners have been replaced, but I paid so little for the car and its so old, I hate to put alot of $$$$ into it, so I plan on driving it until something snaps. :bigcry:
Good luck to you. |
Did you check the ball studs? If one is sticking or collapsed, it can make a lot of noise. And the fan pulley isn't hitting the dipstick tube support, is it? That can make a very scary noise (don't ask how I know).
