Was just pondering the question, seeing as how the kits are complete in each MB I own, and I personally have never opened or needed them (thank God). :) |
What about paper cuts or cuts in general. have used the band aids several times. You don't have to use it for emergencies primarily.
|
I just used the Mercedes in the S420 the other day. I was walking by and remembered I had many cuts on my fingers. They came from many different things over the past few days, merely coincidental. Anyway, I used a few band-aids from the S, then I went into the center console in the C and used some Neosporin.
And for the record, I am all healed! THANK YOU MERCEDES BENZ'!!!! |
Use my M-B's 1st Aid Kit? And risk ruining a perfectly collectible item??? Egads! No! I'd rather bleed to death before touching the content of the 1st Aid kit. I just went to my local Sav-On drug store and put together a "real" kit. That's the one I'd use if faced with an emergency.

Never had any need for it.
Though this is something which makes the MB the "safest" car? |
The first aid kit is JUNK!
First of all, it IS ok for small cuts and so forth, but if it was an automobile accident I do not think it has enough stuff in it. I added some latex gloves, scapel, Lortabs/Vicodin and all sorts of other stuff. But more importantly, the stuff in there does not last long at all. I just had my first aid kit replaced a little over a year ago because all the stuff in there was no good anymore (no good meaning the bandaids dont stick, the cream dried up, the tape doesnt stick, etc.). And when I had to use it, the bandaids dont stick. The bandaid kept trying to fall off my finger and since I was in a convention, i couldnt replace it that easily. I think this is due to its location (in the rear shelf) and heat getting on it. In the summer time it does get pretty hot and with sun shining on it all day for a while I am sure its not going to be too adhesive. |
The kit was handy once when my daughter got a cut during a soccer game. I agree about the location of the kit though. Texas summers will turn the contents of the kit into useless dried nonsense. Fortunately, I have another kit that I won at a car show raffle.

Gotta ask you Aaron, where do you keep all of your cars??? Do you have a warehouse out back or something??!!
|
I had to remove the kit because it was disturbing the sound from my 12inch woofer.
I have however used it once. Pelle 300E 4M -89 |
Used the kit when I took the front off our family 97 SLK230.
Not hurt in the crash, but I cut my hand quite badly picking the nearside front wing out of the road. My fault. Possibly my most humiliating hour. Got rid of the car after that. |
I have made small use of my first aid kit. A few bandaids. I have found that keeping it in the compartment under the rear window is not the best idea. 15 years of parking in the sun heats that kit up. A lot of stuff in mine has suffered some heat damage and needs to be replaced.

First Aid Kit
I'm with LGB, my 18 year old first aid kit is a collectors item. Doubt the band aids would even stick. I'd like to compare it with a Rolls Royce first aid kit. I was impressed that it came with real scissors.
|
If cars are made to be as safe as they are, why have first aid kits in the first place? :D
Whats the Rolls Royce first aid kit like? |
I haven't used it myself, but drops of dry blood indicate the previous owner did. Eeeew. One more thing to add to my used car checklist :)
Reminds me of a family story. My uncle had a mid 70s 280S. Someone packed an aerosol can in the first aid kit. So one day he's driving and the can pops out of the case, takes out the rear windshield and dome light then takes out the front windshield (I don't get the physics, but that was the trail of damage). This happened on a rural road in a communist infested (my apologies if this is politically incorrect) area in the Philippines. It took a long time to figure out he wasn't shot at. Sixto 91 300SE |
Annnnd.......They are so clever that they put it in the rear window deck so the heat of the summer dries out all the
adhesives so they don't stick. Kit good for the first two years, and then you have to replace it. :( Wonder how many kits they sell each year as replacements!!!! ;) Gary |
