has anyone heard of replacing mercedes oxygen sensor with oxygen sensor from 1990 mustang 302 posted by Richard Easley in his mercedes benz discussion site?
he did not list the model applicable and did not return the email i sent last wk. i was wondering if this trick will work for my 95 c220. thanks

The O2 sensor article is at http://hsb.baylor.edu/html/easley/autofaqs/o2sensor.htm , but doesn't give the model for which the swap works, I suspect it is related to the Bosch part #, and we need to find out what the numbers are for the Ford and the MB.

O/2 sensors
 

Back in the good old days when big brother would let you import a grey market car into the USA, most needed a kat and sensor installed. I remember shops using the sensor from a 4 cylinder Ford T'bird Turbo which came in an Autolite box. Inside was a Bosch 0/2 sensor. The part numbers to a similar Porsche sensor was one digit different as 0 280 003 002 versus 0 280 003 003. The only difference was the connector and lead length...and lots of $$$

Some parts houses have one wire and heated three wire generic universal 0/2 sensors for sale. So far all the threads are the same...don't tell the manufacturer or they'll put some strange ones in so you HAVE to go to the dealer for it!

Up till OBDII all you stood to lose was the performance of your feedback control system. This usually only tranlated to poor mileage and premature catalyst failure.

With OBDII the cars control unit will rat on you if you don't hit the design characteristic precisely. It will probably only cause the engine light to light after the thing gets older, but you never know. Achieving operating temp is part of the design and location of the sensor. You are playing roulete just hooking up the same number of wires.
