ASD light constantly on...

Hi everyone,

hope your all having a good day...

My ASD light is constantly on...
ive cleaned the connectors on the relay and inspected the innards of the relay and it seems to be ok...

I have ran a diagnostic, running a wire from pin 5 in the diagnostic port and grounding it...the ASD light then flashes 8 times which tells me either the magnetic switch or the break light switch is broken...This Is per Yal's great Instructions :)

Does this seem reasonable or could it be something else? If it is this where is the magnetic switch and or break light switch...My car is a 1990 190E 2.5-16.

Thanks

hey zakh, the brake light switch is near the top of the brake pedal. Take a flashlight with you ;) It has a connector and also has a plunger that is engaged when the brake pedal is pressed. You have to twist it to disengage it from its mount, unplug the connector. Its about the size of a tic tac container. Its a cheap part and it can cause the asd light to come on, I have spoken and read the posts of a few europeans who have asd and this switch is one of the things they replace first when diagnosing asd. The plunger gets stuck and doesn't rebound properely.

hi Yal,

thanks for that...i have just changed the brake light switch, but the light is still on. Could it be a faulty ASD relay?

any other ideas?

It still gives me 8 flashes when i hook up the wire...If i leave the wire attached for 1-15 seconds it does not clear the ASD light...

HELP!!!
