Front calipers
Have a 1985 300SD. Need to buy new front calipers and the parts house needs to know if they are ATE or Bendix style. Is there a way to tell them apart?I dont see any numbers or anything on them.

With your VIN number, your dealer can probably tell you what you have.
Probablay won't be any more expensive, either. |
If you are replacing both, it doesn't matter. They are interchangable. I would just make sure both sides are the same.

Thanks for the infomation.

I find that ATE's have better pad clips, making them a bit quieter.

It's hard to make it out in this picture, but this one is an ATE rear. Bendix should be the same way. I think like Matt said, if you replace both sides with the same you'll be OK. As long as left and right front are the same, you should be allright.

i have mixed them many times with no ill effect.
if i were a shop though i would probably only change pairs. for liability sake. although a new bendix on one side and an ate on the other should be fine as far as that goes. tom w |
