Check Engine Light 1988 560sl

Hello:

The check engine light on my 88 560SL is on and I can't find a reader for the diagnostic code. Car is running fine. From what I have read, it is OBD not OBDII.

How can I read the code setting off the light? Are there any sources for a OBD code reader? (I have found a ton for OBDII) I remember reading somewhere that there was a way to jump the connector so that the flashing of the panel lights indicated what is setting off the light. Is this true? Does anyone have any info?

Thanks

Richard

on the 88 560sl the cel only comes on when the o2 sensor sees a voltage that is stuck and not changing i.e. .950 or .001 .if there is nothing wrong with way car is running then maybe o2 sensor bad.there are other things that can cause the k jetronic to run rich or lean and trigger the cel but you say it's running fine.

Thanks

Thanks David.

Without having anything else to guide me in a direction, I was going to change the O2 sensor. It's the simplest potential fix and from reading many things online it seems to be the most common problem.

The check engine light went on and off intermittently for a few days, then has stayed on constantly. I've notice no difference in performance.

Thanks again.

Richard

Changed O2 sensor Light still on

I changed the O2 sensor, but the light is still on. Any suggestions? I there a way to read the code without a scanner/reader?

Thanks
