300E Shifter Rubs on Shift Gate
 

Hi,
Car: ‘86 300E ~215k miles W124 M103
Problem: After about 30 minutes of driving (when car is fully warmed up) I have noticed my shifter rubs on the shift gate (makes a lovely metal on plastic chirp). To be more precise it’s when the car is in D and the rubbing happens on the front of the D notch in the shifter gate. How do I diagnose and fix?

You need new shifter bushings.

I have had these bushings fail before and it really did not feel the same as this feels.

replace the bushings if theyre worn or adjust the shifter linkage.

Adjsut the linkage it was. Thx
