60K miles service?
Hello all,
What exactly is involved in the 60K miles service on a 1995 E420 with 58K miles on it? Is it basically "check this and check that" as many dealers have written in their booklets or are there some things that really need to be replaced? Is there a list of what to check and what to replace? Can one do it himself instead of taking the car to a dealer or an Indy? Are there any adjustments? Thanks |

I would really need to see the Service Schedule Manual that came with your car when new but 60Kmile service may mean New Fuel Filter (and an air filter) or even New Spark Plugs.
When was your coolant last changed and when was your accessory belt last changed? And even something like sunroof rail lube is important. I'm sure you'll get a post from another owner just like you, but a MB Service Schedule Manual that comes with every new car is really a good guide. |

i'd do the following at the minimum:
engine oil & filter air filter cabin air filter new coolant (and inspect all rubber hoses) brake flush spark plugs fuel filter inspect brakes & replace rotor and pads if necessary inspect serpentine belt & replace if necessary for 12 yo car, do these as well if haven't done already new ATF (OEM MB), new AT filter new differential (mobil1 75W-90)

Agree with ProV1, with that few miles, I'd do the 60 plus whatever is recommended between 60 and 120, certainly every ounce of fluid and every filter in the car.

I also agree with ProV1. This covers the basics. Like Will said - filters and fluids. I'm sure we could dream up a few more minor things to do. I can't think of any adjustments outside of the Bowden cable, which affects shifting. The dealer adds on things, like perhaps lubing the hood hinge and cleaning the drain holes, then packages everything with an inflated price.
If you can do it yourself, you'll probably spend no more than 1/3 of the cost for parts and effectively have the same service. If it's out of warranty, and you don't want to do it yourself, definitely find an indy and forget about the dealer.
