oil pressure switch
 

hello,, i have a 1994 s420 w/228,000 miles, car have been runing very good until last ,my oil pressure gauge started, going up/down red lite came on /off but the car stll ran fine no noise,s turn car off re/started it ,,and every thing back to normal,, then today started it up it show no oil pressure but ran O,K is this a sign that the oil pressure switch is going,,,, the needle go.s up/down lite will come on 4. like 60/sec and go rigth off,,, but the car didn,t make any stange noise can some tell me what this my be,,going on thank.s any info,, would be helpful,,,, mel dwyer,, 1994 s420

Thanks for trying to provide a thorough description of your symptoms. You have, however, failed. What light goes on? Is your oil level OK? Punctuation would help. Having said that it is risky to assume, on a car with 228k miles, that you have nothing but a gauge problem. I would get the oil pressure checked right away.

thank,s 4 the reply i check out the car in the day ligth,,, and i found out that the lower wireing harness connector to the gauge swicth has lost it,s insaultion,,, the 2 wire,s were touching each other,,, i did separated the wire,s and every thing is back,O,K think i will be replaceing the LOWER WIRE HARNESS REAL SOON,,, i had the top wire harness replaced 2summer ago,, and i never checked the other harness i guess the heat from the engine has play a big part of the harness detartion,, sorry 4 some of the spelling,,,,,, thank,s 4 the reply,,, mel dwyer 1994 s/420

Glad you got your problem solved. My lower harness (300E) did the same thing a few years ago, and the dealer doesn't stock a replacement. So I MADE a new one.

In my case, the bare wires shorting out on occasion ended up ruining the oil pressure sender, so I had to replace that too.

hello,, thank 4 reply do any one know were i can buy a new LOWER WIRE HARNESS,, 4a 1994 s/420 no one seem,s to stock,,them online,,, i would like to just change it ,, 4 a pice of mine,,, so that i know the whole harness is NEW,,, THANK,S MEL DWYER 1994 S/420 228.000 MI,,
