2001 S500 Woes..Help!
Need help with a puzzling fault code. As many of you know this model year has presented more than it's share of aggravation for it's owners.:greedy:
It's a beautiful car but I would really love to drive it too. Towed the beast to my mechanic after only 6 days of ownership for a collapsed suspension. My extended warrenty company (Interstate):stupid: denied the claim saying the problem was preexisiting. We have since come to an understanding that if the problem was preexisting, I could not have driven the car 53 miles home from the dealer.:book: They paid for the pump and the faulty strut. Only one!! As a precaution I paid for the other. I have found out the hard way this company will only cover a total failure of a part.:( A diagnosis revealed several fault codes including a bad ignition switch, and shifting modulator. These last two parts are new. But even now the fault code B 1016 exists. An interuption of circuit 50. My mechanic feels the ignition switch, even though its new, may still be faulty. He has ordered another one.:dizzy2: Has anyone had a similar experience? I have decided to stick it out with the repairs. 31 days and counting at the shop.:silly: You guys are great with all your help so far. Thanks is advance! |
Many (MOST) of the 2001-2005 Mercedes(V6 & V8's) are involved in a massive recall of the voltage regulator.(over 335,000 cars)
I would have that voltage regulator replaced even if it isn't covered by that recall. That car is VERY voltage sensitive! Also any time the air-matic pump is replaced the relay (position O in RF fuse box) that operates that pump should also be replaced! |

Thanks for the info on the voltage regulator. I will fax this information to my mechanic. I do believe the relay for the pump has been replaced.
Looking forward to, and very appreciative of, any information offered. My confidence is still high that I will get this car back on the road again. However I may have to sell my W126 to do it!!   Not much of a market now on the West Coast for Grand Cherokees. Now that one is for sale;) |
