Gas Engine Size
Where do I find engine number so I can find out year and engine size? Engine has been replaced before i got car.
The engine is in a 1976 280S,it is a inline 6 gas, also after I find numbers,is there a web site I can go to that will tell me what year and size engine is by engine numbers? Thanks for help! |
If they replaced the engine with another M110 engine, the engine number is stamped on the top surface of the block - front corner, drivers side. A 280S should have an engine number starting with 110.922. Engine size is 2746 cc.

Ok now does anybody know of a web site i can go to so i can find out year and engine size by using e.i.d.number?

Anybody out there know where to look?

Confused. The guy gave you the exact engine size already. Do you have just the engine, or is it in the car, and are you suspecting it's not the correct engine? Can you post the ID number?

Yes the engine is in a 76 280s,I really need to know how to find out what year this engine is so I can buy correct parts.

I believe if you use the engine number you will get the correct parts. On parts where there was a change in the production, there will be a reference "before" or "after" a certain break point for that particular part. Are you sure it's not the original engine?

Yes this engine is fuel injected, belived to be 2.6 liter 87-93.

Ahhhh, the plot thins. I thought it actually was an M110 motor, maybe not the original one to the car, but the same type. Well hmmmm. I'd have to double check but I think the engine number is on the block deck (top of the block) behind the cylinder head. Would you mind posting the engine number if you find it? I still think the parts dept can get you the correct parts if you just have the number, as the parts will be broken down into engine number ranges.

If you suspect it to be a 2.6 liter, it would be the M103 engine. Engine number is stamped in the block on a raised area just behind the alternator about 2 inches above the junction of the oil pan and block. Probably hard to read as it is most likely rusty.
