My guess is you are going to have to take out the rear deck which involves taking out the back seat in order to get to the wires for the brake lights. There may or may not be a connector under there. It is possible that you have a Euro model which could come without a 3rd light.

This is just a guess and I hope it helps.

By the way did the 3rd light come with a mounting base?

I already took the back seat and the rear deck but i can't find the wire for the 3rd brake light. There's mark of a 3rd brake light,I guess the previous owner sell the 3rd brake with the wiring.I think it comes with a mounting base im not sure im gonna ask Bill from fastlane.I saw i 9pin connector under the trunk,i think this is where you plug the 3rd brake light ,Anymore input? Thanks

I am also want to install a third brake light onto my 1992, w124, but someone told me that, the wattage of the third brake light bulb, will cause the buld fail indicator system be crazy, so, from the Hella brake light manual, it mention that, we have to fit a realy onto it, to control the light.

It seem to be reasonable, because the wattage of the relay is lower than the bulb! so, I think it will help.

Gary:What happened to your Original 3rd brake light?,Did you buy it w/out the 3rd brake light? You said that you have a 92,i think there's already a wiring for a 3rd brake light so you don't have to worry about the bulb fail indicator.I just can't find the wiring.

On my '87 300E w124, the wiring for the 3rd brake light runs inside the trunk, between the metal of the parcel shelf and the fabric of the parcel shelf. It leads to the drivers side, and comes out with several other wires (Trunk light, speaker wires?) by the drivers rear speaker, then goes between the trunk liner and the rear fender near the power antenna. Hope this helps, but am curious why someone would remove the 3rd brake light.

Ron,
How did you mount your light. I have the light and the light mount, but it looks like the mount is suppose to slot into another piece which I don't have that is most likely screwed into the deck.
Does anybody have an idea? Could somebody take a look at the W124 rear deck brake light and tell me how the light mount attaches to the deck exactly...Thanks

Yal:I don't have the mounting bracket what i did is forced the third brake to stick to the glass and the deck.Sorry i can't help you out,Im still looking for a mounting bracket though. You better put that third brake its dangerous if you don't have that cuz the drivers are used to see a third brake on the rear specially at night.Goodluck

Thanks. I'll probably try the dealer to see if they can show me an exploded view on the computer of the rear deck and show them the part I need...if it exist.

Ron,
Just got back from the Manhattan dealer (great guys by the way). If you have the holes in your rear deck then all you need are four special clips that attach to the four stems of the light mount from underneath the deck. The part number for them is 912010-005001. $1.70 for 4.

Hope this helps.

I am now trying to figure out if there is a wiring harness I need. Later.

Yal:Can you give me the part no. for the light mount.Like what JCE said the wire comes out with several other wires, what i did was find an empty wire and connect the third brake and press the brake pedal to see if the third brake will light up(the engine is running). Its like hide and seek.lol.BTW the wire is wrap with a braided black nylon, you have to find that wire. Thanks

Ron
